Will separatists raise their voice to seek justice for Peer Aijaz Sheikh’s rape victims in Kashmir?

Peer Aijaz Sheikh, referred as Maulvi Sahab by the local people, has been booked by the Kashmir Police for raping minor boys under his mirage of driving away evil ‘Nazar’ and washing the victim’s sins. The police have booked self-proclaimed healer under section 377 of Ranbir Penal Code. There have been several accusations on Aijaz sheikh, and none of these have come in the limelight. This monstrosity took place in a village 60 km away from Srinagar in Mondji, Sopore Tehsil. 

The victims alleged that Sheikh claimed his jinns would only talk to a male child below 14 years of age. When interviewed by media, Peer declined these allegations and claimed that he helps his followers in every humblest of the ways! 

During the last few days, several victims (male and female) of Sheikh have come forward to complain. All these victims interacted with journalists from Free Press Kashmir and are fighting their inner conflict which has been burdening them for years. Many victims said the Maulvi had destroyed their life, but they have a reputation to carry, and thus, preferred not to speak against him. Rape survivors stated that they still live under fear of medical complications and have in fact developed some medical conditions after being sodomised. These victims were sent by their parents to Sheikh as they were influenced by the charm of the peer and believed the peer would help them out of their issues. Survivors have been living in depression ever since. 

Aijaz Sheikh’s brother, who remains anonymous, asserted that the allegations are baseless and spread by the family who owes money to the Maulvi.  

Where is the media?

There has been a lack of follow-up in these horrific cases by the press. All this while, whenever allegations were made against Hindu spiritual leaders, media conducted their trail. The character assassination of all the accused babas was expertly executed. But why are they shoosh on this case? Why no debates? Why no follow-up? The media has an equal responsibility to expose these savages. Instead of promoting revoking a notion against Hindutva, we expect the media to also focus on these barbarities. 

Kashmir Politicians have never taken up such cases and voiced their concern. The rise in crimes and malpractices in Kashmir is dangerous, and it deserves to be treated with utmost priority. The separatists avoid commenting on such incidents. Instigating people with anti-national sentiments seems to be their priority. These attention seekers don’t see a reason behind exposing monsters like Aijaz Sheikh. Focusing on such crime and seeking justice for their own state’s kids may not add value to their anti-national propaganda!

While the world is busy with their logic, Aijaz Sheikh is out on Bail! The case will be heard again in court on September 27. Let’s hope these victims get justice quickly.
